Pet of the Week!

Calbert O.

Hello!  My name is Calbert.  I am a two and a half year old Basset Hound. I love coming to Best Friends for boarding and to visit my other canine friends.  The staff at Best Friends knows how to wear me out during my stay. I like to play on these colorful plastic kiddie castles when I get playtimes outside.  And I am a hound dog, so you know I like to talk, talk, talk!  I am king of the playground when I'm up here! Sometimes I play so hard during my stay, my Dad has had me get a bath in the past before going home.  The Groomers at Best Friends make sure I'm fresh and clean for my departure.

Pet Of the Week

Kodiak L.

Hello, my name is Kodiak. I’m a German Shepherd. I am an older gentleman, but I love staying at Best Friends. Whether it’s a pat on the head, outside exploring time, playing with my soccer ball or a kiss & a cuddle, I just love all the attention I get. I always bring my pillow & blankey with me too, and my Best Friends always make sure I’m nice & cozy in my suite. Before my mom picks me up, I always get a refreshing bath, which makes me feel GREAT! A big THANK you to my mom for letting me stay at Best Friends.

Dog Survives 40 Days Stranded In Mountains

SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS, Calif. (CBS)

A very strong-willed dog has returned to its owner after surviving 40 days in the freezing wilderness of the Santa Cruz Mountains, CBS station KPIX-TV reports.
Buck, a black lab, got lost near his home Jan. 6. Owner Terina Held thought he got swept up in a swollen river during a rain storm. Flyers went up and calls were made to shelters, but Held gave up after five weeks of searching.
"We figured he was probably dead or what not. Or someone fell in love with him and (they) weren't going to give him back," Held recalled.
But the story changed on Feb. 16 when neighbor Mark Smith took the day off to go hiking on his birthday. Smith and his dog Copper heard whimpering and found the weak, emaciated black lab stranded on a patch of dry river bed not far from where Buck went missing.
Smith scooped him up, waded 200 yards through an ice-cold creek, and carried Buck to safety.
"I would think that anybody who loves animals and was walking and seeing what I saw probably wouldn't have hesitated to do what I did," said Smith.

Buck lost 50 pounds as he lay in the cold without food for more than a month. Held is relieved to have her companion back at home.

"I know he knows that we love him, and maybe he didn't want to leave us hanging dry," said Held. "Maybe he wanted to make sure to give us more love before his dying day."

Doggy Day Camp 4th of July Party

We just had our Doggy Day Camp 4th of July Party and everyone had a great time. As you can see from the pictures, we have a patriotic group! They went outside and ran around and played, then they got their pictures taken with a cute background. They took home a picture, goodie bags, bandanas, and glow in the dark necklace to wear on Saturday for the festivities.

We would also like to let everyone know that we will be at the IVEC Carnival in Beech Grove. This event on July 11th runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Please stop by our booth to get some great infomation and register to win some great prizes. For more information you can contact us at 317-841-8182 or IVEC at 317-782-4418/indyvet.com.
